For those in the neighborhood, we are planning an outreach the last Friday in October. We are going to take back that night for Jesus! We are calling it Harvest night or Hallelujah night for the kids who live near the church. They will be able to come to our parking lot and get candy along with the gospel. We are not decorating the cars with the regular theme that goes along with that night but we will be celebrating light, life and all that pertains to His kingdom. Come if you can and be ready to be a light in the dark for our neighborhood kids!
Maria and I were on the scooter going somewhere and we were about to pass River Road, the street that goes to the casino. I had never been there so I often wondered what that place was like. What was the draw? When we arrived the parking lot was huge and it wasn’t full but for a Tuesday afternoon there were still quite a few cars parked there. We found a place to park the scooter and proceeded in. First, I noticed the people going in with us didn’t seem that excited to be there. Just the opposite of what David says about going to the house of the Lord. “I was glad when they said unto me let us go to the House of the Lord”. Then I noticed the people leaving the casino seemed just as sad as the ones going inside with us. On the inside of the casino it didn’t get any better. As I looked down the aisle of these electric slot machines, with all their flashing lights, and sounds; the people sitting and playing them had the same sad, empty expressions on their faces. The finishes inside the casino were fancy and the bathrooms were luxurious, but I couldn’t get over the feeling they were trying their best to hide the death they were actually peddling. After about ten minutes Maria and I had seen all we cared to see. As I turned toward the exit, and sped up the Vespa, the wind began to blow in our faces, I once again thanked God for the joy and life He gives, and as I looked back for a moment I prayed for those still in the casino, that they would find the true source of life in Jesus Christ and not a slot machine.
